Virginia Journey of Hope Friday, October 13 Main Evening Hub: Northern Virginia (Alexandria, Falls Church, Arlington Area) and Entry Point for the Journey. Events: NO PUBLIC EVENTS. Saturday, October 14 Events: Participant Orientation at the Unitarian Church on Arlington, Blvd from 9am to 12:30pm. Tuesday, October 17 Events: All Virginia Journey of Hope participants will be leaving NOVA the morning of the 17th. Travel time from NOVA to the Valley is around 2 hours (depending on the destination) so there will be NO morning events this day. We welcome events from noon on in Stanardsville, Charlottesville, Waynesboro, and Harrisonburg. There will be two teams (of three each) going to Stanardsville, Harrisonburg, and Waynesboro. There will be four teams (of three each) going to Charlottesville. Regional Specialists can schedule as many as six events in Stanardsville, Harrisonburg, and Waynesboro – if they can confirm that the evening event could include dinner. Participants will need to travel to Harrisonburg that evening for accommodations so we would want to ensure they were fed. If food cannot be arranged, try and schedule afternoon events. For the four teams going to Charlottesville – a Regional Specialist can book up to 4 events from 2pm on. We are planning noon-time media activities in Charlottesville so nothing before 2pm. Hotel: All of the Journey participants will be staying at the Comfort Inn at 1440 E. Market Street. This hotel has continental breakfast but we must use a suite as our meeting room. Transportation: ARRIVING - If anyone is joining the Journey on this date we urge them to fly into either Dulles or Reagan National Airport. We will make arrangements for local transportation to bring the participant to Harrisonburg. DEPARTING – If anyone is leaving the Journey on this date we STRONGLY recommend that you fly out of either Dulles or Reagan National Airport and NOT travel with the participants as they head towards Harrisonburg. The hotel has a shuttle to Dulles. If you are flying out of Reagan National Airport we will arrange for transportation.
Wednesday, October 18 Events: Journey participants will be engaged in a morning media/visibility event and then leaving towards Roanoke. Travel time from Harrisonburg to Roanoke is roughly 2 hours. To allow for travel and morning events, no events in Roanoke should be booked before noon. Four teams (of three) will be available for the rest of the day in Roanoke. Regional Specialists can book up to 8 events. If events are later than 7pm, please ensure that dinner is provided to the Journey team. Three teams will travel a bit beyond Roanoke and be available for events in Blacksburg and Radford. Because they need to travel a bit further and then circle back to Roanoke, these teams can provide presentations for up to 5 events. Finally, the last three teams will be traveling even further to the Abingdon/Bristol area. Because it is a long drive, each team will only be able to do one event each – for a total of three events. Hotel: The majority of the Journey participants will be staying in Roanoke at the Econo Lodge Civic Center at 308 Orange Avenue. This hotel will have a meeting room for us plus continental breakfast. Two teams will be traveling further south to Abingdon/Coalfields area. The local organizers in those communities are arranging for accommodations. Transportation: ARRIVING - If someone is joining the Journey on this date it is best if they fly into Richmond. The entire Journey of Hope will be in Richmond the next day (19th) so we recommend that new participants wait in Richmond for the rest of the Journey to join them tomorrow. Alternatively, if someone is joining the Journey on this date they could fly into either Dulles or Reagan National Airport and we’ll arrange for local transportation to Richmond. DEPARTING – if someone is departing on this date we recommend that they fly out of Richmond, Dulles, or Reagan National. We will have to make arrangements to get them to one of these airports. If possible, departing either on the 19th out of Richmond or the 17th out of either Dulles or Reagan is strongly recommended.
Thursday, October 19 Events: Morning visibility events will happen in both Roanoke and in the Bristol/Abingdon area prior to teams departing. The seven teams (of three each) staying in Roanoke the night before will travel directly to Richmond following morning visibility. The travel time is about 3 hours. All seven teams will be available for events starting at 1pm and throughout the rest of the day – a total of 14 events. Please keep in mind that if the last event is at 7pm or later, we ask that dinner be provided for the Journey participants. For the three teams coming from Abingdon/Bristol, following morning visibility events, they will hit the road for Danville. Along they way we encourage events in Stuart and Martinsville. Our teams could do one event each for a total of three events in both Stuart and Martinsville. Events can be booked for our teams in Stuart between noon and 2pm. After that, the three teams will travel to Martinsville and be available for events between 3pm and 5pm. At 5pm all three teams will continue on to Danville and not be available for events that evening. Transportation: ARRIVING - If you are joining the Journey on this date it is ideal that you fly into Richmond. We will make arrangements with anyone flying in on this date to pick them up at the airport. Alternatively, someone joining the Journey on this date could fly into Dulles or Reagan National Airport. Friday, October 20 Events: Friday we will do a number of visibility events to generate coverage for Sister Helen Prejean. We will do morning drive-time visibility and we would like to do a noon rally involving ALL of the Journey participants. Seven teams will be available for one event each between 10am and 11:30am. After the noon rally, all ten teams are available for events after 2pm (up to 10 events). Events at 7pm or later need to include dinner for the Journey participants. Hotel: The majority of the Journey participants will be staying in Richmond at the Ramada Inn Richmond West – 1500 Eastridge Road. This hotel has a meeting space for us PLUS continental breakfast. This hotel will provide us with a meeting space PLUS continental breakfast. Transportation: ARRIVING: If someone is joining the Journey on this date it is ideal that they fly into the Norfolk Airport. The Ramada Norfolk Airport hotel HAS a shuttle from the airport so anyone coming in should take the shuttle to the hotel. DEPARTING – If anyone is leaving the Journey on this date, it is ideal that they fly out of the Norfolk Airport. ALTERNATIVELY: if costs are prohibitive to either fly into or out of Norfolk, participants should first try Richmond. Wednesday, October 25 Events: All of the Journey participants will be leaving the Tidewater area this morning and returning to NOVA. At Fredericksburg, three teams will be available between noon and 5pm for events. Regional Specialists can book three afternoon events in Fredericksburg. For the remaining seven teams, all will be available for afternoon and evening events in NOVA starting at 2pm. Events scheduled at 7pm or later need to provide dinner for participants. Hotel: Quality Inn Governor – 6650 Arlington Boulevard, Falls Church. Includes a meeting space but no breakfast. We will provide breakfast. This is the same hotel we used at the beginning of the Journey. It includes a meeting space and we will provide continental breakfast. NOTE: The Journey of Hope is covering the costs for the hotel this night at the Quality Inn Governor. If you prefer to check in to the NCADP conference hotel, you will be responsible for the cost. Transportation to the NCADP hotel can be arranged. Transportation: ARRIVING – if you are joining the Journey today we recommend that you fly into either Dulles or Reagan National Airports and meet the group at the hotel in the afternoon. We will help arrange for transportation. DEPARTING – If you are departing today, we recommend that you take a late afternoon flight out of either Dulles or Reagan National Airport or a morning flight out of either Norfolk or Richmond. We will make arrangements for local transportation to the airports.
Thursday, October 26 Events: Morning drive-time visibility will be scheduled. All ten teams will be available for events from 10am on until 5pm. After 5pm we are holding the evening for a special event for Journey participants. Hotel: Quality Inn Governor – 6650 Arlington Boulevard, Falls Church. Includes a meeting space but no breakfast. We will provide breakfast. This is the same hotel we used at the beginning of the Journey. It includes a meeting space and we will provide continental breakfast. NOTE: The Journey of Hope is covering the costs for the hotel this night at the Quality Inn Governor. If you prefer to check in to the NCADP conference hotel, you will be responsible for the cost. Friday, October 27th - Sunday, October 29th Hotel: Beginning on the 27th the Journey of Hope will no longer cover accommodations. We recommend that people move to the NCADP conference hotel. However, if you prefer to stay at the Comfort Inn – that is not a problem because the rate is much cheaper than the conference hotel. Transportation: Beginning on the 27th the Journey of Hope will no longer provide transportation EXCEPT for an specific events. We will be happy to figure out any transportation issues that may arise but we will be far more limited in our options. |
