Shirley Dicks life changed with her son Jeff, was arrested and sentence to Death. She adopted Jeff’s daughter Marie, and began a campaign to save his life.
After over twenty years on Death Row Jeff suffered a heart attack, and as a result of follow medical care he received in prison, Jeff never was able to regain his health and died about a year later.
During Shirley’s campaign to save Jeff’s life she authored six books and was often joined in the campaign her other son Trevor and her adopted daughter Maria.
Jeff's Little Brother, Trevor Dicks was killed in an automobile accident June 7th, 2005. Trevor spoke out against the death penalty and spoke to kids about drugs, alcohol and violence. He had a message to spread, and he did it wonderful. The kids really listened to his story. Trevor also contributed many hours of his time to the Journey of Hope.
